The best-selling South African wines in the Japanese market
KWV, one of the leading wineries in South Africa, means "South African Grape Farmers' Cooperative" in Afrikaans, one of the 11 official languages in the local area.
“Ko-operatieve Wijnbouwers Vereniging van zuid-afrika beperkt”
It was founded in 1918 in Pearl, about 40km northeast of Cape Town, with the aim of stabilizing the wine industry, which was South Africa's national policy product.
As the name suggests, when it was first established, it was a government-affiliated company, not only regulated grape harvests and winemaking, but also worked on various businesses, including raising funds, providing technical guidance to cultivators, and experimenting with breeding. One of the most important achievements of the company was that Professor Abraham Perodo, who was the first cultivator and taught at Stellenbosch University, combined Pinot Noir and Cinsaud (also known as Hermitage) species, produced Pinotage.
Pinotage is an ideal variety for the South African climate, and in an instant it has become cultivated by many farmers, and is still widely known as a South African varieties.
KWV later privatized it in 1997 and now sells wine, brandy, liqueurs and spirits in more than 100 countries and regions around the world.
The company's strengths are its cultivation and brewing technology backed by its wide network and extensive knowledge and experience.
We have signed long-term contracts with about 50 farmers in 13 regions, and our cultivation team is working together to grow high-quality grapes and constantly improve soil. Additionally, a talented young brewing team, coached by experienced brewing advisors at prestigious Australian wineries, is taking on new challenges.
KWV produces a variety of products, from casual types that can be enjoyed daily to perodo, which is limited to the best vintages, but what is common to all products is its high cost and performance.
It has a good balance between the condensed fruitiness obtained from the abundant sunlight unique to the Southern Hemisphere and the beautiful acidity due to the temperature difference between the mornings and evenings, and is a great combination not only with individual dishes but also with dishes, making it a great drink.
He has won numerous awards in competitions around the world, and is expected to continue to perform as a leader in South Africa's wine industry in the future.
